This major examines the interconnectedness between society and the environment and provides tools to effectively mediate the interaction for a better relationship. This interdisciplinary degree draws most heavily from the natural science and social science departments whose missions are to prepare students for professional careers as well as to prepare critical thinkers who understand the scientific and social realities of life.

B.S. Requirements (6 credit hours)
(courses used for BS requirement will not count as General Education)
Complete an additional six credit hours in Math, and/or Computer Science, and/or GEOG 323 /SOC 323 Social Statistics or PSYC 2510 Statistical Principles for Psychology beyond the General Education requirements.
Sustainable Development Core Requirements
Concentration (select one) and Guided Electives (9 credit hours)
Minimum of 18 credit hours from one concentration plus 9 credit hours from
Guided Electives or from any other course listed below: Earth and Environmental Science - Concentration
Choose 15-16 credit hours, cannot be the same as Area III or major requirements
Social Justice and Policy - Concentration
Sustainable Business Practice - Concentration
Interdisciplinary - Concentration
Students select any course (27 minimum credit hours) listed within the other
three Concentrations (“Environmental Science”, “Social Justice and Policy”,
Sustainable Business Practices”) and/or courses listed as “Electives” on the current
degree plan.
*Students who elect this option will need to prepare a statement describing
how this Interdisciplinary Concentration option helps them fulfill their professional
