General Science - Teaching Field

Secondary students complete a double major in both Secondary Education and Science Education with concentrations in Earth and Space Science, General Science, Life Science, or Physical Science. Specific lab science courses are required for each concentration. The degree plan is listed in the Double major section of this chapter. Elementary students may either choose to double major or take the courses listed here.

Elementary/Secondary Education Teaching Endorsement Fields (24-36)


For Elementary Education New Mexico State Licensure, students must qualify for a competency based teaching field (24-36 credits). To be licensed in New Mexico, you must pass the PRAXIS Teaching Reading Elementary test (5205). 

If a student wishes to teach at the middle school level, they must pass the secondary content test for their selected teaching field.
